The Importance Of Setting The Mood

No you perverts.

This isn't some raunchy article about how to set the mood for you and your lover.

This is actually a mature article about setting the mood for your WORK environment.

Get your head out of the gutter!

Okay, back to it.

Setting the mood for your work environment is so important.

I remember when I first started blogging.

There would be days when I couldn't find any spark within me to write a post & I honestly couldn't tell you why.

That is, until I took a look at my environment.

If you're trying to work in an environment that's lacking spark & motivation then that's probably why you're struggling to release a blog post or complete an over due assignment.

Take a look around at your work station.

It could be on your bed, at your desk, on the dining room table, outside on a picnic blanket on the grass or on your sun soaked patio.

Is your work environment surround by positive and supporting people? Is your work environment making you excited to work? Have you got all the tools you need where you are?

Answering these questions could help you determine what it is that's blocking your creative energy.

Maybe you need to find a quieter space away from people who don't agree on the work you're doing.

Maybe you need to set the mood the way you like it using your 5 senses.

Whatever it is, there is no right or wrong. You will know when your environment feels better.

Here's some of my top tips on setting the mood!

And remember: you don't have to be a blogger. You could be a school student, a uni student, a gardener or an astronaut.

P.S. If you're interested in any of the products I've listed, they're all linked to their exact spot!

1. Light a candle

Candle's are my absolute weak spot. I love candles. Honestly if I had it my way I'd have my work station looking like a shrine dedicated to the Kardashian clan (ok so maybe I do have a shrine. Lets not go there though)

- Looking for calm & relaxing vibes?

- Looking for something a little sweet?

- Looking for a little bit of motivation?

2. Set your mind right

This step is optional. You're either into meditation or your not. Either way, I'm not going to force you into anything. If you're into meditation then these meditation tracks act as great background music.

3. Fade out the negativity

Sometimes people won't agree on the path you've chosen. Maybe your mum was an astronaut who had a dad as an astronaut and so she's been dressing you in space suits since you were 1 and now you've decided that a career in fashion is your thing, mum suddenly isn't interested.

That's okay.

You shouldn't feel bad for the work you choose to do & if you do start feeling bad, that = an instant motivation & creativity buzzkill.

Stay focused & stay on track. You are the only person who can live your life, so do it the way you wan't to & do what makes you happy!

4. Make Keeping Time Fashionable

Sometimes deadlines can do your head in & the thought of checking your iPhone for the time makes you want to run yourself over with a bus.

However, keeping on track & sticking to a schedule is so important if you want to get things done effectively. I normally give myself a set amount of time to write a post & have a reward set for straight after.

That way I'm getting all my tasks for the day done quickly & effectively.

When I say quickly I don't mean hurry. If you hurry you'll end up making mistakes and not learning.

If you dread the idea of keeping time, make it a fashionable experience. Invest in an amazing watch & make time keeping a treat.

- For the neutral

- For the stylish

- For the show pony

5. Evoke your 5 senses

Senses are a crazy thing.

I mean you can smell, hear, taste, touch & see all at the same time! So so crazy.

Because all of our senses are involved at the same time, it's important to ensure that our environment is tailored to all 5.

- Sight: ensure your work area is clean & organised with bright colours

- Sound: whatever your vibe & music style, ensure that all music has no lyrics. It's been proven that music with lyrics distracts the mind. So instead have a look on youtube and see if you're favourite song has an instrumental version!

- Touch: make sure your work environment is clean, dust & dirt free. Also if you're a texture person, purchase some textured books, pens & pencil cases to spice things up a little.

- Taste: studying & working = snacking so make sure you have some yummy healthy snacks readily available!

- Smell: whenever a place smells nice I always find I work 500 x harder. If nice smelling environments are your thing then try add a diffuser to your room or some essence if you're not a candle fan.

And there you have it.

My top tips for mood setting!
