How To Score Your Dream Job

In Year 10 (that's what we call it in Australia), we are asked the question by our teachers, friends & family "What do you plan to do when you finish school?" or "Where do you see yourself at the end of Year 12"

Obviously the people that ask us these questions are crazy because do we look like we own a crustal ball and are we currently wearing a bandana?

No

I ain't no psychic

But of course these people only ask us these questions out of the kindness of their hearts.

Our parents are scared that we won't make the right choice.

They worry that we'll be 75 and still living at home.

Of course that worry comes from a kind place however it's important to know that it's okay not to know.

So once you've finished your final year in school you're out in the open world.

What do you do?

Some people know straight away. Others take their time and try different things.

Regardless of whether you're reading this post as an 18 year old, a 45 year old or a 25 year old, you'll find refuge from the constant questioning of your plans in this post.

Here's how you can score your dream job:

1. Sit down with a pen and paper (and I mean JUST a pen and paper. No phone. No candy crush. No Netflix)

2. Think about what makes you happy. You may have loved writing as a child or you may have enjoyed teaching people how to do things

3. Take the things that make you happy and under each of them generate 10 job ideas that would interest you that relate to that thing

4. Now that you have a potential job list, narrow it down. Go through the list and honestly ask yourself if you would want to work in that job and if it would make you happy

5. It's trial and error time now. Each day, try out 1 "job" that you think you would like to see if it works for you. Want to write a book and be an author? Sit down for an hour a day and write. See if it excites you. Do you get excited to wake up in the morning to write? If not move onto the next idea.

Sometimes your destiny is sitting right under our nose and most of the time it's what we loved as a tiny tot!

This may not be for everyone but I've definitely found my dream job just from sitting down and brainstorming.

I hope it works for you
